It became Aristotle Onassis's favourite village after he bought Skorpios, the small island opposite, in 1963. His statue stands on the waterfront today.
Right across from the harbour lies Madouri, crowned by the mansion of the family of the Ionian poet Aristotelis Valaoritis. A little further out is Skorpios.
Every day, boats leave the waterfront for swimming trips around the islets and over to Meganisi.
